Northern Tadka promises to dish out the 'flavour of Punjab' and it does.
Inside, the lighting is so subtle that it makes you squint and make faces at the menu. Once you get passed that, the warm and friendly ambiance puts you at ease. The crowd is not loud but not silent either; the right blend. And after downing the bar mans' special cocktail, it seems perfect. Old Hindi songs play in the background; some of them are too slow and makes you wonder if the record is indeed stuck. The yellow walls are decorated with wonderful paintings of Punjabi folks.
The food is excellent. Surmai ke tikkay (seafood)is fresh, juicy and does not have that fishy smell. It simply melts in your mouth. Dare to try something different then go in for the fabulous and flavoursome sikandari raan. The murg punjab de sholey and Mumbaiya chicken too is scrumptious. The vegetarians can opt for the dahiwala kebab or even the tandoori pineapple (better portions desired).
The moong dal da halwa or the jalebiyaan with rabri (for dessert) is heavenly and sinful at the same time.
The prices might be steep and the portions smaller than expected, but undoubtedly Nothern Tadka will still be a prominent fixture for years to come.
