A few renovations and touch-ups later, Café Royal has managed to retain a name in the frivolous restaurant business. Bill Clinton’s visit in 2000 is not their only claim to fame; rather it is the excellent steaks and sizzlers that they continue to serve. The Chicken Sante Fe (in black pepper sauce), beef burger (with thick potato wedges and caramelised onions) and their gooey chocolate desserts make the cut. Skip the salads; instead, drink a pint of Stella or Leffe. Service is occasionally slow; you may have to twiddle your thumbs while admiring their rendition of ‘The Last Supper’ with Aishwarya and Angelina jostling for elbow room. Order smartly, dip into their free wi-fi and you’ll be a happy camper.
