The interiors at Balthazar are as formidable as its name – high ceilings, backlit bar, private dining areas and vantage points with accent lighting. Spacious and romantic with downtempo beats, the restaurant is sure to see a number of A-listers over the coming months.
The primarily Chinese menu is filled with subtle, authentic flavours. Vegetarians are pampered with the most silken tofu, meaty shitake mushrooms and crispy greens. The seafood is excellent and the spice-happy set can accent their food with the elegant chilly oil that is served along with the mains. Service is gentle yet efficient. The portions are iffy (it’s disappointing to open a bamboo basket and see 3 dim sums), but the main course portions are better. Their set menus offer value for money (about a grand each) and allow for a wide sampling of courses. Worth a splurge!
