The Lee story begins in Kansas, when Henry David Lee founded the H.D. Lee Company in 1889. Recognising the benefits of producing work clothes such as overalls, jackets and dungarees, Lee set out to manufacture the Lee Union - All work jumpsuit. Legend has it that the idea originated with H.D Lee himself, who realised the need of a sturdy one-piece, outfit that could easily be pulled over uniforms to protect workers from the dirt of their work.
The Lee garment became the official fatigue uniform for American soldiers when Lee was asked to manufacture as many Union-Alls as possible for the U.S. Army during the Work War I.
