| December 2009 : This is the 10th year that Sanctuary magazine and ABN AMRO – now the Royal Bank of Scotland, or RBS – have purposefully dug out hidden, courageous earth heroes. In an age of crumbling values, these men and women not only represent hope for the natural world, but for us all, for they are the heroes we need to inspire our youth. In an age of climate change, these heroes take on a different dimension altogether for they are the ones, on a daily basis, who work to sequester and store carbon in the most scientific and effective way possible – by ensuring that natural forests and ecosystems thrive across the country. They are also proof positive of the words of that inspirational anthropologist, Margaret Mead: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever does.” |
