KBS Foundation
A group of like-minded individuals got together to form KBS Foundation – with a clearly stated mission to improve our neighbourhood.

The KBS Foundation is a non-profit, non-political and non-sectarian, social and charitable organization, having concerned citizens of Khar, Bandra and Santacruz as permanent members who have come together to undertake projects across various localities of Khar, Bandra and Santacruz to fulfill a common and passionate objective of cleaner, greener and beautiful surroundings for a better quality of life.

Our first goal was to improve our waterfront by extending the Carter Road promenade.

We are delighted to inform you that after 2 years of sustained efforts, the Carter Road Promenade extension is now complete. This was made possible by the support and funds from Mr. Baba Siddiqui, MLA, and the support of our MP, Mrs. Priya Dutt with the support from Maharashtra Maritime Board, BMC and MHADA. The promenade extension has been design by the well know architectural firm M/s P K Das and Associates.

The extended promenade is very different. Every effort has been made to make it as environment friendly as possible. We plan to have a dual power feed: conventional supply through the utility company Reliance Energy and non-conventional through Solar Panels by TATA Power, hence helping in conserving energy and helping to do our bit to reduce global warming. In the near future, we also propose to have wind energy by installing Mumbai’s first windmill.

The promenade extends 180 metres from Café Coffee Day upto the Ganpati Mandap, with a broad walking track, ample seating capacity, a chess board, good foliage and a gazebo cum amphitheatre at the end.

We have also created a one of a kind public recreation space in the city. The giant chess board and 8 smaller chess boards create a public area that we hope will be extensively used by the community. We plan to hold a yearly public tournament, open to the whole city and start a cultural participation across all communities.

The idea of providing a gazebo on the promenade has been conceived with the purpose of providing round-the-clock space for underprivileged children to study. We propose to light up the gazebo all night so it is used by these children. Many NGO’s have expressed interest in utilizing this space. Sponsors are invited to be associated with the NGO’s or come forward with their own ideas for effective use of the facility.

The Foundation currently requires funds for the maintenance of the extension of the promenade for:
1.Security
2.Greenery
3.Cleanliness
4.Maintenance of solar panels (including AMC and insurance of solar panels)
5.Maintenance of chess area
6.General maintenance including energy costs, etc.

After taking the lead & initiative in extending the Carter Rd promenade which is a best practice for public space utilization in western suburbs. It is widely being used by the local community for fitness and recreational purposes. KBSF has embarked on a mission to motivate people to take up cycling as a mode of transportation, sport, recreation & environment protection. In the past, it has organized a film screening on Cycle Friendly Cities at Carter Road open air amphitheatre that had an attendance of 100 Cyclist & over 200 viewers. Project under consideration include the creation of a cycle track along the waterfront. A feasibility study is on and we plan to conduct a pilot track soon.
