Move over Jazz Utsav and Rock music fests, it’s the time for the Blues to hit centerstage.
The city of Mumbai has perhaps never witnessed a full fleged Blues festival, eventhough Blues singer Buddy Guy has performed twice in Mumbai. That’s about to change this weekend- the Mahindra Blues Festival is scheduled to commence on the 5th and 6th of February at Mehboob Studios in Bandra on multiple stages!
Blues, with its soulful energy and electrifying guitar sounds, has not been very popular in this country, but you will find a sparse population of fans and listeners of legend like B.B. King in different pockets of the city.
Matt Schofield, will also conduct a music workshop on Sunday the 6th of febuary especially for musicains while everyone can enjoy the performances of some of the most well known Blues musicians in the world.
74year old great Buddy Guy and Jonny Lang from the US, Matt Schofield from UK and Shemekia Copeland will regale audiences with their magical music. Schofield was voted as one of the top ten British guitarists, and Shemekia, is a well known Blues vocalist from Harlem. They will be joined by some of our most talented home-grown musicians, who revel in these sounds.
This festival will also feature Shillong based blues band “Soulmate”, “Saturday Night Blues Band” from Kolkata (with Ehsan Noorani of Shanker/Ehsan/Loy fame), and Mumbai based Blues band “Luke Kenny Mojo Jukebox”, led by well known DJ and musician Luke Kenny.
Strum away at this sensational Blue(s) weekend!
