If you are familiar with the Jaipur Literature Festival, the Kovalam Literary Festival and wish that you didn’t really need to travel that far to get your dose of literary insights then hold your horses as your wish has come true. Lavasa presents The Times of India Literature Live! - a four day fest in Mumbai and Lavasa that is all geared up to get creative and literary minds on board the magical journey that only the registered few will experience.
Sessions include the Mythology Redux and New India, New writing which seek to discuss the new trends in writing comparing it with ones that existed and the development of the current Indian international style of writing. Know more about the city of Mumbai though poetry of Keki Daruwala, Arundhathi Subramaniam, CP Surendran,Pitish Nandy, Malavika Sanghvi and Gerson D’Cunha in the Life by the Throat – Poetry readings and discussion and Poetry of the city. What is the Insider Book you ask? Get your answers with the help of B. G. Verghese .Kumar Ketkar.
Also check out Kuchh Bhi Ho Sakta Hai which has recieved some rave reviews; conducted by Anupam Kher. Book releases like Narayani Ganesh’s biography of her actor father, Gemini Ganesan and Sharmistha Gooptu’s Bengali Cinema: Another Nation, Susan Stronge’s Made for Mughal Emperors too are scheduled. Stage presentations include The Kite Runner by Sorab Wadia and Chris Snock.
Ever wondered what the future holds for the printed word in the face of the new emergent e-literature? Have you felt that the Indian National Anthem needs to be revised? Do you feel that our cricket centric nation is ready to move beyond the game? These potty thoughts are realized at this fest with E-Literature: Here today, gone tomorrow?, National Anthem revisited, CWG & After.
Theatre Masterclass will be conducted by Mahesh Elkunchwar and Necropolis by Aasakta. It will discuss the future of Indian Theater. Later, Ashis Nandy will conduct a session on how the rise of slums has resulted in spatial and mental incongruity in Lost Cities, Disowned Cities. Also in session is Matthew Sharp who spins tales accompanied with music from his cello in Johnny’s Midnight Goggles: Stories on a Cello.
The Finale will be held at Lavasa and will incorporate Humour Is Serious Business conducted by Bachi Karkaria and Anuvab Pal and Speaking for Young India by Chetan Bhagat amongst other events.
With such a plethora of literary sessions on offer, it would be a shame to miss it. Moreover, the fest is surprisingly free, so book your seats NOW!
