Festival Della Cucina Italiana
2011/01/18 by admin
Last year, more than few might have been privy to Julia Roberts character ‘Liz’ savouring an authentic spaghetti dish while sipping on some delectable wine in an outdoor restaurant in Italy (Eat, Pray, Love).  If you have had enough of just gaping at the almost orgasmic facial expressions she exudes over enjoying a classic Italian meal or thinking of ways to get the same experience without travelling that far, then think no further.

The Laughing Cavalier is not just a beautiful 16th century painting by Frans Hals but a luxurious restaurant nestling in the suburban area of Malad in Mumbai. It currently plays host to the ‘Festival Della Cucina  Italiana’  - a celebration of authentic regional Italian food, wine, art and culture.

Be prepared to devour regional Italian cuisine carefully prepared with the choicest of ingredients to suit the Indian palette. These rare dishes will be at your disposal for ten days.

Try the dishes from Liguria and Tuscany or specifically from Sicily, Lombardy, Lazio and Companio. Go in for the Caponata (a veggie delight comprising of aubergine, bell peppers, onions, and Italian tomatoes flavored with olive oil, sugar and vinegar) or Caprese (classic salad made of buffalo mozzarella, ripe tomatoes and fresh basil- a specialty of Campanio region). Also on the menu is the Fettuccini a la Carbonara ; Fettuccini pasta cooked with olive oil, bacon, black pepper and egg yolk which is worth a try. Choose from regional wines like Gavi di Gavi, Soave Classico, Chianti Classico Reserva, Riff Pinot Grigio and Asti Spumante or cocktails like Mama Mia, Melontini or Fresh Pomogranate and Basil Martini.  Live music permeates the air all of which makes for a complete Italian experience.

“Italian food is not only about Pastas and Pizzas. The Festival is a toast to various aspects of regional Italian cuisine, wines and music. The choicest of ingredients have been used to keep the authenticity intact,”  says Chef  Chauhan.  So you are sure to indulge in gorgeously presented, flavourful and genuine Italian fare.  The prices might be steep but what better way to spend time with your loved one, enjoying divine wine, devouring amazing food in an ambiance that spells opulence.

As Chef Vijayraj Chauhan exhorts, ‘Come and enjoy this exclusive Italian food festival!’

Chriselle Fernandes.
